At the beginning of the 20th century, cheerleading was still predominantly male. It was only in 1923 that the University of Minnesota introduced women into their cheerleading team, paving the way for greater inclusion of women in the future.
During 1930s – 1940s period, cheerleading movements became more structured and organized. Universities started holding meetings and conventions to share effective cheer ideas and routines.

1950s era witnessed a significant shift in the composition of cheerleading teams, with an increasing number of women participating. Costume designs and dance styles also underwent changes.
At 1960s – 1970s, Cheerleading started entering the professional arena and performed at major events like the Super Bowl and other major sports occasions. During this period, dance and choreography became integral parts of cheerleading performances.
