Jenggala.id – An accident at a nuclear enrichment facility in the Sverdlovsk region of Russia has resulted in the death of one worker. The news was revealed by the facility’s management on Friday (July 14, 2023).
A cylinder containing depleted uranium exploded due to a pressure failure at the Ural Electrokimia Plant (UECP), which is owned by the Russian state nuclear energy company, Rosatom.
UECP, the world’s largest uranium enrichment plant, described the incident as a “localized” incident. They emphasized that the danger has been contained within the affected area.

“A factory technician, aged 65, died after suffering fatal mechanical trauma,” stated the release.
All other personnel present in the area at the time of the cylinder explosion were evacuated and sent to hospitals for medical examination.
